According to the writings of Saint Benedict Joseph Labre, each Christian should have three hearts: one of fire, one of flesh, and one of bronze. The heart of fire is to be aflame with love for God; the heart of flesh is to be filled with love of our neighbor; the heart of bronze is to be cold to self-love, helping us to be eager to practice mortifications.
